The Samsung Galaxy R is a high-end Android smartphone and an alternative to the popular Galaxy S II. The R forms part of Samsung's new smartphone naming convention, which consists of five categories: S (Super Smart) is for the very high-end smartphones, R (Refined) is for high-end, W (Wonder) is for upper mid-range, M (Magical) is for mid-range smartphones and Y (Young) is for entry level smartphones.
The Samsung Galaxy R is a sleek and slim Android with a dual-core 1GHz processor. It has a stylish enclosure in a smooth black casing with an amazing 4.3 inch LCD touchscreen, empowered with the TouchWiz user interface. A full touchscreen QWERTY keyboard makes typing a joy and the accelerometer quickly rotates the display into landscape or portrait viewing modes. The Galaxy R also has proximity and gyroscope sensors. It weighs 135g, which gives it a solid feel, yet despite its size it's very slim – just 9.5mm in depth.
The Galaxy R comes with a variety of messaging features that allow you to text, Tweet and share photos or videos with your Facebook friends. With GPS and Google Maps there's navigation and with 3G, HSDPA, GPRS and Wi-Fi, Internet access shouldn't be a problem. There is 8GB of internal memory with the option of upgrading to 32GB of further memory via the microSD card slot.
As with all Android phones, Adobe Flash is supported making the browsing experience that much richer and more compatible. The 5 megapixel autofocus camera captures high quality photos and it records video at 720p this handset. The 1650 mAh battery provides almost 10 hours of talk time and 23 days of standby time.
